In 2007 my wife announced she would be dedicating weekends over the next six years to earning her degree.
Said she, “You’d better find something to do with your weekends.”
I had already been mucking around with a kart that I had rebuilt from a cheap eBay wreck and that had worked out quite well. I knew of a few blokes who had built aircraft from kits, so I began asking questions and researching on the internet.
I quickly learned that a kit was going to be expensive, so I narrowed it down to something I could build from scratch, with the possibility of buying sections later on if funds were available.
The 601 was chosen firstly because plans only was available, followed by the claims it could do 120 knots and would make a good cross country aeroplane. That claim it seems was a bit exaggerated, however the decision was made. I received my plans from Zenith Aircraft on August the third 2007.
