Flap Motor Pushrod

I bought a screw type flap motor from another builder who had upgraded to the newer linear actuator type. The motor came without an actuator rod, so I had to make one up. The tube wasn’t a problem but getting a fitting with a matching 15/16″ thread was going to be difficult.

Keep in mind to buy these parts from Zenith has become expensive since COVID, freight charges to Australia have gone through the roof and our dollar is only worth around 66 US Cents.

I bought a 7/8″ drill and found the 15/16″ thread tap on eBay, first trying a 3/4″ gal pipe joiner, but when opening out the hole I found it would always run off centre. No big deal given these are only a dollar or two.

Then I discovered a hex version of pipe joiner, which I could fix in the drill vice and open out to 7/8″ evenly, then tap the thread. Worked like a charm. You can see from the photos how I then welded the joiner to the tube.
